FOUR TRIPLE OH

Raw challenge finally got 4,000 hits... about 26 hits ago.

Another vegan lunch

Though I have been struggling once again with the limited vegan meal choices and their respective nutritional components (or lack thereof), I came across an interesting combination for lunch today.

I went through the menu from Buongiorno and the Provencal sandwich seemed to be the only vegan item. The sandwich is composed of thinly sliced aubergine, peppers, mushrooms, caramelised onions and carrots, mixed with sun-dried tomato spread.

When I came to order, I decided to turn the sandwich into a wrap, having it wrapped with whole-wheat tortilla bread.

The outcome was quite messy, but nevertheless vegan, nutritional and absolutely delish!!

The ultimate challenge

Over the past couple of days, I've changed my blog's template at least three times.

I've change the blog despcription from strictly raw vegan for 365 days in 2010 to what it is now. And now, I'm not sure which template to settle on.

I'm open for suggestions, let me know if you have any.

Trying to be Fahad goes vegan crazy

Trying to be Fahad, a blog focused on promoting a healthier lifestyle, has attempted to reach to the masses (aka. me) and feature vegetarian and vegan products in their latest posts.

One of the posts featured the spicy eggplant sandwich by Diet Care (also sold at Caribou Coffee). Fahad, the author, dissected the sandwich's ingredients, calorie content and nutrients and came out with a positive verdict. (link)

If you had asked me a week ago, I would have said that it's one of my favorite snacks. Unfortunately, it contains Feta Cheese making it not vegan (yet vegetarian).

Another post on Trying to be Fahad, features vegan (soy) products provided at Lulu Hypermarket, all of which are imitation beef, sausage and chicken. (link)

I'm glad that people out there and in Kuwait nevertheless are being considerate of alternative lifestyles. Way to go Fahad!

Ding-a-ling, the lunch bell went

The clock struck 12.30 and like any other day, I heard my stomach growl like there was no tomorrow.

Knowing that I only had melon slices and a glass of vitamin C water, I got on 6alabat.com and scrolled down the never-ending list of restaurants and franchises.

Junk…

Junk..

Junk..

Bredz!!

Feeding on my memory of their delightful salads, I decided to look at what they had to offer.
I then settled for the roasted artichoke salad and the healthy sandwich.

The salad was composed of roasted artichoke hearts, red bell pepper, basil, parsley, capers, red onion, sun dried tomato, black olives, chilli flakes and white vinaigrette dressing.

Meanwhile, the healthy sandwich comprised rocket leaves, grilled marinated eggplant, zucchini, red bell pepper and roasted artichoke hearts, all of which was seasoned with salt, olive spread, sun-dried tomato oil and crushed peppers, pressed between two loafs of whole-wheat bread.

I must say that that was the most fulfilling meal I ever had, which happened to be healthy, vegan and absolutely scrumptious.

So what's for dessert?

Happily ever vegan

I've been toying with the idea of going vegan again for a while now, but this time permanently.

Considering that as per experience, I've had most success with transitions going cold turkey, I decided to adopt the same approach this time around.

I woke up this morning reminding myself that I'm vegan and that I shouldn't drink milk, have cereal or any of the dairy-infested junk that I usually have.

And before I knew it, I was reaching for a box of milk on my way out to work this morning.

Then I thought, WHAT? I don't even drink milk, what the hell is wrong with me? I put it back and got some freshly sliced melon to-go.

Three hours into going vegan and I'm already about to quit. I can't stop thinking about cupcakes and cookies. I know that the first few days are going to be the hardest so I need all the support I can get.

Just a reminder for all of you (and myself), this is what my daily food intake will look like:

A whole lot of random

I think I've adopted seasonal hate towards my job. I only hate it when it's Summer time and the weather is absolutely glamourous, much like today's.

What if, I can get out of work and..

Option A- Sleep in till noon and catch brunch at some shack/restaraunt on the sea side.

Option B- Get my fabulous ipod, a bathing suit, flip flops, glasses, some SPF 30 lotion (very very important) and go to the beach.

Option C- Something extra spontanious- drive to the airport and book the nearest day/return flight to Oman (or some other awesome and close-by spot I haven't been to).

OR maybe I should think of options when I actually HAVE the option to get out of work.

People who are unemployed, count your blessings.
